How to Fall Asleep Naturally
64I'm very lucky, I sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. I can also sleep sitting in buses or waiting rooms, park benches and Biology class, practically anywhere. No, I haven't tried sleeping standing up, and can do it if somebody else can!. Rarely I have problems getting to sleep, and then I understand my less fortunate brothers and sisters. For them, I reveal my secrets!
The cartoons at the right are unused roughs I did. They are about snoring, but sometimes laughing and relaxing can get you to sleep, so look at them.
Top 22 natural sleepy methods.
1. Relax. If you need tips for that, go to my how to relax hub.
2. If there's something nagging you, finish it and go back to bed. If it's not finishable then, at least decide to do something about it in teh morning.
3. Go to the loo.
4. Don't increase tension level. As a general rule, nobody shouts at anybody at bed time. No noise. Loud kisses are fine.
5. Listen to soothing instrumental music, or those waterfall noises or whatever you get now.
6 Have a good meal
7. Tire yourself out.
8. Read a good book. A boring book is better.
9. Deliberately yawn, It fools your mind, causing it to issue orders for real ones.
10. Don't get into politics. Responsibilities and assassins won't let you sleep.
11. Drink water, go to the loo, go to bed.
12. Regulate the temperature to comfort level, if you can.
13. Pray. When I pray, I'm so boring that God and I go to sleep immediately.
14. Meditate. Same principle.
15. Count sheep. This still works. Either it works, or at the millionth sheep, it's time to get out of bed.
16. Count down from 100 to 1. I usually fall asleep at 65. 67...66..65...6Z...ZZ...ZZZZ
17. Close your eyes and create a dream.Suddenly you find your dream taking over!
18. Read Bedtime stories to your kids. Don't know about them, but my book drops from my hands after Pickety-Boo the Kitten talks to Don Juan the Duck.
19. Watch a foreign, dialogue-heavy movie. Any movie your intellectual friend suggests will work.
20. Encourage your spouse to talk about his or her cousin-in-law. Your mind can't take this, and to protect itself, will make you sleep.
21. Switch off the lights.
22. Reread this hub. You will fall asleep at point 12 or 13.

If you're single - mas...er...interact with porn. Or get busy with the wife...hehehe.
I also fall asleep easily like Kenny.
Would to know if those with problems in sleeping found these suggestions useful!
Kenny, 15 is useless. 17 is the best and easy to do.
As usual your cartoons make me laugh and smile I need more.
Thank you
Great hub Kenny. I agree with Mrmarmalade, number 17, for sure.
As always a good bunch of info.
Great HUB
regards ZsuzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I've used 17 to some extent before. Not necessarily create a dream, but tell a story. I've continued the same story of weeks before until it got boring, to which I would then change plots and characters. It's an interesting way to fall asleep, but it usually works for me, unless I'm really stressed, upset, or worried.
My late wife had the secret. She would listen to a tape of the Fibber McGee & Molly show evey night -- always the same show. She never got to the end of it!
you always make me smile Kenny..great ideas..If I read in bed I am out in five minutes. One of my favorite is to put on headphones and listen to my favorite music..I never get to end of a CD.sometimes I never hear the last 4 songs ever.... Hugs G-Ma :O)
lol, good tips, i sleep easy too but my hubby takes real long. this is good for him hehehe
Very good hub oh I wish hard that they would all work. 15 and 16 do not work at all they stimulate the brain by thinking. Oh gee I wish I could sleep I would love to go to bed every night and just nod off. Some times I watch the clock for hours. Then fall asleep when sun nearly coming up or so.
useful Hub for a chronic insomniac - me :o hehe
I think women have much more trouble sleeping than men - perhaps we've"trained" ourselves to hear every sound when we had little children. I find it difficult to sleep when I do not have the bed to myself. On my own, I have no problem. Hubby isn't impressed. But that's the way it is.
as a side note, wonderfully humorous and I loved #20. Actually what I was told was not to lay in bed too long if I couldn't sleep because it created a situation where you came to associate going to bed with not sleeping.
Usually if it's my mind running in circles, I get up and write it out in unsent or sent :O letters. I get a lot of snippets for poetry or essays this way.
You're right about the politics too. I live for pol and yeah it makes the blood run and is anything but sleep-enhancing. LOL
Tottie... I think you may be right about that mother thing too, kind of always listening for sounds that could mean you need to wake up.
I have not been a good sleeper for decades, and I realize I have an overactive mind, but since I don't have to venture out to work outside of home nowadays, I can get up late, so I have very good energy, but I still would love the blessing of falling asleep quickly. Number 9 (yawning) sounds good and makes sense, I think. Tricking the mind to think I am sleepy is very much like self hypnosis, will try it tonight!
I used to visualize being caught in a blizzard on Mt. Everest as a sleep technique. I don't recommend this as it's not only ineffective, it has the opposite affect. I would spend hours thinking up battery operated thermal climbing suits, little caves one could hide from the wind in, food to be carried around etc.
lol, well sometimes I think about himself but that's not very conducive to sleep either. :o
if I thought of dappled meadows I'd spend hours worrying about ants and bees and where the closest spot of civilization was.
then I must be a saint :)
I think there is a biblical reference too, "He who watches over Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers" but I freely admit I'm watching over no one. Just mucking about. :p
you only say that because you haven't tapped into my music vidz yet. try the billy talent sometime. but not at bedtime :p
I just watched it again myself. I missed my music vid babies.
Kenny this is great! And I just tried 9, it works! Thanks! ;)
Gtreat tips Kenny and lol at hub contents and comments...9-10-13 and 22 were very funny and many a true word said in jest!!
;)
Thanks for the advice Kenny. Very useful.
Great Hub Kenny. I new to this network, and yours was the first Hub I read. Look forward to reading more.
Love this hub! 13 especially got a chuckle from me, I can imagine God being bored to tears with my ramblings. Great advice!
Great Hub Kenny,
I do tend to have trouble sleeping. My mind keeps shouting things at me.
I have found that forcing myself to relax helps. Can't go wrong with 13 I suppose. However it is 10 that does keep me up on occasion. Gah! ;)
Well written, helping and humorous, thanks!
Thoog.
It is a great hub, I also don't have problems sleeping. But you are right we have to keep our minds relaxed to have a good sleep. I also avoid coffee and tea in the nights that also helps. Reading a book also helps. Great tips Kenny, I will try your tips when I have a problem. Must read by everyone.
I had to giggle at number 13. That's pretty cute... :-)
LOL! I like #17 (create a dream) cause I thought I was the only one doing this! My sister once told me that when she has trouble falling asleep, she curls into the fetal position and rocks back and forth very slowly. Her theory is that it reminds her mind how she fell asleep as a baby. It works for her! =)
Hi Kenny! Great Hub! I am like you I can fall asleep anywhere. The one time I fell asleep on a park bench and someone put a dollar bil in my hand while I was sleeping :) Says a lot about my outfit huh?
Nice read!
Ah Kenny, I usually just tell Him to hug me so I could sleep. And it does work. hehe By the way, I'm writing a hub related (or similar) to this topic...and I'm putting up a link to this hub of yours.
This one remains useful and I shall use it to wish you a good day today. :D
Oh and yes, it's 4 a.m. and I'm still drinking coffee. Perhaps that has something to do with my chronic insomnia, you think?
I finally slept lol
ha, there you are. now this, this friend is my prime time. however I do have a dinner thing later. :p
*waves to you whilst drinking a cup of coffee* 11 p.m. :D
lol :p
Great hub! I am a light sleeper and It always takes me an hour to get the sleep and I find it rather annoying! My husband snores which is even worse! These are helpful tips! Thanks!
